Jazz Up Your Facebook Profile

IMG_3607Before we start talking about Facebook Profiles, let’s go to that new bookstore around the corner.   Notice that in this bookstore, all the covers of the books face out towards you.  Now while I get a cappuccino, I want you to scan through the gazillion covers in here and decide which books you want to read.  You’ll only have a few split seconds to make your decisions. Ready, set, go!

Now that you have your books, and I have my cappuccino,  what made you grab certain ones off the shelf first?  The title?  The author’s smile? The information?

If you’re building a business using Facebook, you want people looking at your Book Cover, otherwise known as your Profile Page.  In a nano second people will make a decision about you. When we first join our companies, we usually add some business foo foo and some dazzling pictures.  Then we get busy, our information becomes outdated, and it’s a hot mess.

Today there are over 1.4 billion people on Facebook.  Despite its competition with other social media giants, Facebook is still the biggest player in the social media world. It’s still the best way for people to connect with one another.  By the way, Facebook was created to connect family and friends.  So it makes sense to create Profile Pages that will help people get to know us for the wonderful people that we are! Quickly!

So here are the questions we must continually ask:

  • Is my Profile authentic?
  • Is it current?
  • Is it giving a good first impression?

Your Profile Page is after all, your brand, and if we are network marketers, then our brand is important. It’s really a big deal!  It makes all the difference between whether someone sends you a Friend Request or merrily scrolls right on by.

Profile Picture

  • Headshot or head & shoulders. Nice smile.  Good lighting.  Contrasting background. Straight on shot tend to look like a prison mug shot.
  • Use a current picture, not one from 20 yrs ago. If you go missing, would we be able to recognize you from your Profile picture?
  • Speaking of photos, become a good photographer! There are tons of How-To’s on YouTube (ex. Peter Hurley’s “It’s All About the Squinch.”) Download a few photo editors like Aviary or PicTapGo and make your pictures “pop.” No excuses! I use my phone more for a photo editor and social media than anything else.

Timeline Picture

  • This is the Main Part of the cover of your book. Show your passion!
  • Not everything works well as a Timeline picture. Find one that works.
  • Avoid using a stock company picture. Everybody has those!
  • Add text with a photo editor.   Be creative.
  • Check how it looks on the page. Is it centered?  Fuzzy?

  • How much info do you need to share? Sometimes, less is more. A little mystery is okay.
  • Look at your companies top income earners.
  • Note the lines where you can tell WHO you are… Edit it on your phone and add emojis! You can add your URL here even though it is not clickable.
  • Mine currently says:

Jesus Girl – Happy Wife – Guacamole – Ambassador of Hope – INSTAGRAM@TheMargiStarr

  • I’ve reviewed tons of Bios with way outdated information. Consider how everything looks from someone who doesn’t know you. First impressions are powerful!
  • So let’s say your current job is not so glamorous.  How do you word it?  Is there perhaps a better way than to say “Cleaning out cat boxes at the Pet Store?”

  • Gallery Photos: You have FIVE pictures to tell the world who you are! Choose pictures that show various aspects of your life, instead of your business only.
  • Go to your PHOTO section and delete any photos you don’t want. When someone tags you on a picture, it shows up in your PHOTOS.

Now review your Profile carefully.  “Would YOU follow YOU?”  Would YOU pick up YOUR book at the bookstore if it looked like your Profile Page?

One final thought as I finish off this cappucino…

Facebook gives us the opportunity to accelerate our dreams.  Take a few minutes and make sure it reflects the good Friend that you are!

Margi “Shining” Starr

As little girls we Imagine what it would like to be a Fairy Princess dressed in pink.

Cambria's face

Then we grow up and Imagine what it will be like to fall in love and marry our Prince Charming. We hear the strains of the Wedding March and we dream of hearing the music play,

“Here Comes the Bride.”

Then life happens and we Imagine what it will be like to have all our credit cards paid off and kiss our 9-5 job good-bye!

In our search for freedom, we hear how some moms have found a way to make some extra income from home.  We see our first customer signing up, then our first distributor! Our mailbox overflows with checks!

Some days it is easy to Imagine.  Some days we get knocked down a bit and have to work at it.

On those days, take a box of Markers and a big sheet of paper and draw your WHY.  What would it be like to not be tired all the time?  What would it be like to have extra money at the end of the month?

What do you want your life to look like in a year?  Or in ten years?  Your drawing will trigger another idea, which will trigger another.  Use the colors that you see in your head.  Bright, vivid colors that connect brain-to-eye-to-hand.  Get over your OCD and don’t worry about how good your picture looks.  It’s not about being an artist.

It’s about, you guessed it, i-Mag-i-nA-tion.

PS  I help moms of all ages, who still believe in Fairy Princesses and Big Dreams, to make extra money from home. My company has helped me do just that!  Call/text me right now at 937-360-9203.  Your dreams are waiting!

The Great Bathroom Debate

restroom-signs-unisex“So God created man in His own image,

In the image of God He created him;

Male and female He created them.”  Genesis 1:27

In the opening pages of Scripture, the writer describes the creation of man and woman. We can only imagine the delight that Adam and Eve experienced in the Garden as they discovered their sexuality.  Their oneness created the first family.  The sexual energy of the first man and first woman ensured that the human race would be fruitful and increase in number.

“And God saw all that He had made, and it was very good…”  Genesis 1:31

Throughout history, we see strong leaders that have ruled nations and led armies into battle. We see brilliant leaders who created industries, birthed innovations, and discovered cures for diseases.  These individuals have possessed that inner spark that caused them to aim higher, persist longer, and achieve more than those who simply exist.

Today we live in a world where we are to lay aside critical thinking and accept whatever we are told by a few people in power or in the media. “Political correctness” dictates that we accept viewpoints that are foreign to the fabric of our society. Gender distinctiveness is not only being erased, it’s being scorned.  Little boys no longer play Cowboys and Indians or line up little Army men for battle.  Little girls are encouraged to play rough sports that were once reserved for boys, and young women may enlist for combat duty.

Now even the sanctity of the public restroom is under fire.  Puberty is challenging enough without sharing a school restroom or shower room  with girls who want to be boys or boys who want to be girls.

I shake my head in disbelief.

It seems to me that universal principles cannot be undone.  We cannot change universal laws, even if we rename them.  After all, we live by the law of gravity, whether we want to or not.

May our little boys grow up to be men of strength and character, who protect and cherish their families.  May they experience the emotional energy that comes from a loving relationship with their beloved.

May our little girls grow up to be beautiful women of strength and dignity, who will nurture and care for their babies.  May our daughters experience the emotional energy that comes from being loved by a husband who adores her.

Old fashioned?  Maybe.  But there are some eternal principles that are perfect just the way they are.

Bubblegum in My Hair

f5a547bc6b93473d8a7d1754f7eb6ce5_dubblebubble5lbc1Our black and white border collie, Heidi, loved to raid the bathroom trash can.  It wasn’t uncommon for her to snatch a Kleenex from the trash and hide it somewhere in the house. While I was at work, she would sneak into our bedroom and snuggle up in our bed pillows. The rumpled bedding gave her away every time.

One workday morning I woke up, drank a cup of coffee, read my devotions, and followed my normal routine. Then I went in the bathroom, stepped into the shower, and started washing my hair.

What in the world???

Yuck! It felt like a glob of glue was stuck in the crown of my hair. I nearly broke my neck trying to look at the back of my head with a hand mirror while looking into the vanity mirror.

There it was.  A sticky glump of pink bubblegum.  Apparently, Heidi had found her sticky treasure in the bathroom trash, carried it into my bed, and buried it in the pillows.  During the night, it had found its way into my hair and glued itself to my scalp.

And I was completely unaware of it.

I made an SOS call to one of our preschool teachers, who had been a hairdresser.

She laughed and said,

“Bring some peanut butter with you and I’ll fix it.”

Soon I was sitting in my office with a towel draped around my shoulders. Robin removed the pink glob with peanut butter and tweezers.  It was painstaking work, but before long I was free of the tangled mess.

Knowing the Formula for being de-tangled from that mess made the difference.

Negative Emotions (Bubblegum) show up in the most unexpected places.  We can go for years walking around with them, completely oblivious to their presence.  They become our Normal because they are so deeply rooted in our Subconscious Mind.

“You will never be successful at Network Marketing.”   (That’s a lie.)
“You’re always gonna be broke.”  (That’s a lie.)
“You aren’t smart enough, bold enough, skinny enough, or young enough.” (More lies.)

With the right Formula (Self-Talk, Eliminating Negativity, Feeding the Subconscious with Good Info, and Continual Connection to a Mentor and Mastermind), the Negative LIES that stick like bubblegum to our Subconscious Minds can be vanquished.

Fellow Adventurer, it takes Courage and Vulnerability to take a closer look at things that have seemed Normal.  *Press Pause* for a moment and look in the mirror.

Two of the STRONGEST Subconscious Programs, the Need to Be Right and the Need to Look Good, become hot sticky messes when we hold fast to them.

So…Where are these showing up in your life?

As for me, I’m grabbing a jar of Peanut Butter and some tweezers and getting to work.

Being Free of the 3 Dark Figures in Trench Coats

Music in a minor key starts to play and the shadows lengthen. As my eyes adjust to the darkness, I see three figures dressed in trench coats. Although barely visible in the foggy mist, their identities are unmistakable.

These dark characters hide in the shadows like vampires. Sometimes I’m not even aware of their presence, but they are there…waiting to steal my thoughts and suck my blood. They look for advantageous moments when my thoughts spiral into negativity.

Their names are Indecision, Doubt, and Fear.

They clearly are the enemies of my soul, attempting to steal my birthright.

These three are mere Cowards, preying on my emotions. They try to convince me that I am undeserving of a better life. Their voices trick me into sometimes believing them.

When I’m lazy and let down my guard, Indecision, Doubt, and Fear creep subtly into my mind, unleashing six basic fears: Poverty, Criticism, Ill Health, Loss of love, Old Age, and Death.

Each one of Fears is birthed in my mind. Within minutes I actually have a physical reaction to the chemicals being released in my brain. Nausea, dry heaves, and cold sweats become debilitating. There have been times when my bed has become my sanctuary as I’ve tried to hide from Fear.

Ever since beginning this amazing journey of Personal Growth, I’ve been learning the weapons of warfare against them.

Just as my innermost Thoughts can allow these dark enemies into my life and prevent my attainment of wealth, my Thoughts can also LOCK them out.

The secret for me is to daily surrender to God’s presence in my life. This means that I speak words of Power and Love into MY own life. The vibrational energy that is created from these Positive Thoughts eventually wrecks havoc with the negative thoughts. The negative forces are losing their grip in my life.

Love is after all, the most Positive force in the entire universe. Because I am God’s Child, I have the right to live out my purpose with joy and abandonment.

The Light in my life is turned ON. The shadows are lifted. The mysterious figures in trench coats are leaving me alone.

I am free because I have learned to guard my mind.

LIVE from Radio Station KMSS–The Power of Your Thoughts

“Good Afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen…

You’ve just dialed into Radio Station KMSS broadcasting live from Central Ohio, USA. We have a special program for our listeners today. Many of you are reading Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Today we’ll be explaining some of the concepts from Chapter 13—The Brain.

We hope you enjoy this special edition of our Radio Programming. Be mindful that we are not here for entertainment alone, but rather to help you achieve your Magnificent Goals and Multi-Million Dollar Dreams.”

I have an old Sony radio that requires great patience to tune into my favorite station. Its single antenna must be adjusted carefully before the channel I desire comes in clearly. Usually I have to move it ever so slightly several times before the static disappears and the reception is crystal clear.

I absolutely love it when my radio is tuned perfectly into Station KMSS.

When I have filled my Subconscious Mind with Positive Thoughts, the air waves at Radio Station KMSS become fully alive. The neurons in my Station wake up and begin SENDING forth electrical vibrations to all the other neurons.

It’s like having a Send-Off Party for all the neurons in my Brain.

My very own Radio Station is actually SENDING out a signal so powerful that it can leap from the confines of my brain and move mountains.

After all, Thoughts are Things.

As Station KMSS is increasing its “frequency,” another part of the Incredible System is beginning to awaken.

The RECEIVING signal for Station WMSS is stored in the Creative Imagination part of my brain. As I open myself up to God’s Infinite Intelligence, the circuits begin to flow back and forth between the SENDING and RECEIVING sections of my amazing Radio Station.

Back and forth. Back and forth. Neurons firing at the speed of light.

It’s like having a Fourth of July Fireworks going on inside my Brain.

Just as I control the radio dial on my Sony radio, I control what’s going on in my Mind through the means of Autosuggestion. I give the marching orders; no one else can do this for me. However, because my Subconscious Mind must obey even the slightest command from Autosuggestion, it’s important to make sure I am giving it the right directions.

They say we have what we really want—so I must make sure that my Desire is white-hot—because that’s the fuel for the effective Transmission. Nothing less than white hot Desire will bring about those Multi-Million Dollar Dreams.

“Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen, for dialing into Station KMSS this afternoon. A very special thanks to our Master Mind partners for making this program possible.”

This is Margi Shultz Starr, Broadcasting from Station KMSS…”

Magic Formula for Success–Stay Clear of the 3 C’s

There are two kinds of people. Those who live in the 3 C’s and those who don’t.

People who live in the 3 C’s are usually pretty miserable folks. They constantly look at life from a negative lens.

Even if you don’t camp out in the 3 C’s 24/7, it’s easy to occasionally slip into the dark, murky world of the 3 C’s without even realizing it. If you want to be a true Winner in your Business and at Life, you must stay clear of these poisonous attitudes. Not only will they damage the relationships around you, but in time, they will suck their marrow from your bones. The 3 C’s make us sick, both emotionally and physically.

Synonyms—Reproachful, accusing, critical, reproving.

Antonyms—Commend, praise, speak well of, acclaim, extol, laud, mention.

Synonyms—bad tempered, irritable, crabby, argumentative, difficult, unreasonable, belligerent, cranky, grouchy, grumpy, disagreeable.

Antonyms—Good natured, friendliness, amicability, sociability, cordiality, agreeableness, good humor, kindness.

Synonyms—disapprove of, condemn, censure, pass judgment on.

Antonym—praise, admire, comment, extol, honor, congratulate, pay tribute to, applaud, acclaim.

Many of us have a strongly entrenched program at our core to “be right.”  When we Condemn, Complain, and Criticize…even in a small measure…we think we are proving to ourselves and to others that we ARE RIGHT and that we know best. It basically stems from our own low self-esteem.

However, that need to justify our judgment sets us up to live a pretty miserable life. It’s certainly no way to create healthy lifelong relationships in our families and businesses. After all, who wants to be around people that are constantly living in the 3 C’s?

The Magic Formula for Success is to intentionally focus on the Positive. Look at the antonyms for each of the 3 C’s. By practicing those affirming words in our daily lives, we shift our thought patterns,

Here’s a challenge:  For the next 7 days, put a $1 bill into a jar every time you say something that is Condemning, Complaining, or Criticizing.  Don’t cheat!  This is not only a great Reality Check, but it will empower you to live a Positive, Prosperous and Healthy life.

To Your Success,

Margi Starr

Hugs and Kisses—It’s a Perfect Day!

It is still dark when I hear the alarm clock go off. I whisper to Ray, who is still sleeping soundly, “Honey, I’ll get ready first.”

My suitcase is ready to go and I’m excited beyond measure to take an early morning flight. Cambria, Gavin, and Ella will be so surprised to see us! I look and feel fabulous in my new outfit.

We drive to Columbus and within a couple of hours we are sitting in First Class of a US Airways jet, heading for Colorado Springs. We’ll be spending several days there before traveling to California. This was one of those spur of the moment trips. We take a lot of those these days.

Ryan picks us up at the airport and drives us up to their beautiful mountain home. Surprise! The hugs and kisses we receive make this a fabulous day.

We first go with Cambria to see her in her dance class.  She smiles with pride as she goes through her dance routines. I am so full of emotion I can barely talk.

Gavin is now dragging us off to his T-ball game.  He is a natural athlete and loves to push the limits. “Watch me, Grandma!” are words I love to hear.

Ella wants to stay close to me. Her sweet nature warms my soul. I love it when she crawls up on my lap and says, “I want Grandma.”

There’s a knock on the door right after lunch and it’s Lacey. She’s flown in from California as a surprise, even though we’ll be going there in a couple of days. It’s so much fun to be with her and to watch the grandchildren interact with their Aunt Lacey.

Everyone loads into the large SUV and we head off to the mountains. Within minutes we are high up in the Rocky Mountains behind Ryan and Jalene’s home. The scenery is breathtaking.  My family is all around me and my heart is filled with joy.

After our fun trip to the mountains, we head back to town. A marvelous dinner is enjoyed at one of the neat restaurants near Ryan and Jalene’s.

Back at the house we read bedtime stories and tuck sleepy children into their beds. Then the 5 of us adults enjoy the hot tub on the patio. The stars are brilliant in the night sky.  I can’t imagine anyplace I’d rather be than with the ones I love so much.

I am in complete peace knowing that I am loved and now able to spend quality time with my family all over the country. My financial peace has made this a reality.

Think and Grow Rich Chap 2: DESIRE

Chapter 2: Desire

The Starting Point of All Achievement: The First Step toward Riches.

If you’ve ever been to a track meet, you’ve seen a runner preparing for his big race. The runner warms up his muscles by stretching, jumping up and down, and even flinging his arms. As the beginning of the race nears, he moves to the starting block and crouches down into position, all senses at full attention.

The Desire to win the race fuels every cell of his being.

His entire life has pointed to this moment. The Desire is now white hot as he focuses on the goal. This is his moment.  This is why he was born.

When I was a little girl, I used to look up at a star-filled sky and make wishes. I earnestly recited, “…Wish I may, wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight.”

But by the time I had gone into the house, the Wish was gone from my mind….because it was merely a Wish…and not Desire.

My quest for financial riches is no longer just a wish.

My feet are in the starting block…my senses are fully engaged, my focus is singular. My Desire is white hot.

I hear the starter’s gun explode in the air. Watch me run!

Hey, It’s Noisy in Here

Ever thought about the noise in your life?

In today’s world we are surrounded with noise.  We awaken to the jolting sound of an alarm. We have our iPods, our iPhones, our iThis and our iThat. We even sleep with white noise in the background.

We’ve become addicted to noise. It’s unsettling to be in a quiet place wherein the loudest sound is your own breathing.

Constant noise can dull our senses.  It can prevent us from hearing the still small voice within us—that inner voice that is able to give direction and correction when we most need it.

In our noise polluted world, it’s easy to lose our focus.  Our true desires are drowned out by the noisy sounds all around us. We become tired and agitated if the noise is unceasing.

Yet, we do not live in a vacuum. Even if we go live in the woods like Thoreau, we are going to be surrounded by some noise.

We’ve all been in restaurants where the background music was too loud making it impossible to carry on a conversation.  Yet, if background music is a reasonable volume, by focusing on the other person, the background noise disappears.

If we want to build a business, it’s definitely going to require Focus. That means there must be awareness as to the level of noise in your life.  When you’re Laser Focused, you may be able to withstand some noise and still remain on course. Only you can decide how much noise is too much.

When you are seeking to hear the still small voice of God, here are some things that will help.

  • Spend time daily in quiet. Maybe you’ll have to go sit in your car alone or lock yourself in the bathroom.  Spending time in nature, without technology, brings fresh perspective and renewed energy.
  • Be prepared for System Shock. It’s not natural for us to experience total quiet. Start out with 5 minutes (it’ll seem like forever) and gradually increase it.
  • Start out reading something that inspires you. For me that would be Scripture or maybe the words to a favorite hymn. Then allow your mind to go into neutral. Think of it as a little vacation from noise. Just be in the moment and don’t over-analyze. Just be in a receiving state.
  • Stop talking. (You’re kidding, right?) Start listening. Listening without an agenda is a great skill to master. If you’re really serious about having less noise in your life, start listening more and talking less.
  • Expect amazing ideas to come to you when you least expect it. These ideas may or may not come to you during your quiet time.

Creating a Noise Free space in your life daily plugs you into God’s indescribable power and love. You now have access to wisdom and resources beyond what you can see.

To your success,

Margi Starr
